Wedding Photographer Janis Ratnieks

A fresh, cinematic approach — alive with emotion,
elegance, and real moments.

Champagne corks popping, flower girls asleep mid-ceremony, wild dance floors — these are the moments I live to capture. My approach blends the polish of editorial with the honesty of documentary, giving every wedding depth and timelessness.

I work with my wife, who handles all retouching. Together we bring both artistry and reliability to every wedding, creating photographs that still feel alive decades later. Sometimes I frame a shot with an editorial eye; other times I disappear into the crowd to catch something raw and unguarded. Either way, every glance, tear, and burst of laughter is preserved.

Frequently Asked Questions

All the practical bits about destination weddings—travel, timelines, style, delivery and more.

What exactly is a destination wedding photographer?
A destination wedding photographer is someone who travels to photograph your wedding anywhere in the world. I don’t just show up with a camera—I'll plan logistics, scout locations, adapt to weather, and help the day run smoothly. The goal is artful photographs that feel like your story, not souvenirs.
Do you shoot destination weddings anywhere in the world?
Yes. I’ve photographed weddings across Europe, Asia, Australia, North America, Africa and Oceania—from intimate elopements to multi-day celebrations. Remote or unusual? Even better. If there’s love and light, I’ll figure out the rest.
How far in advance should we book?
Ideally 9–12 months ahead, especially for peak European months (May–September). If you’re spontaneous, still reach out—sometimes I have last-minute availability or I’m already nearby.
How do travel costs work?
Simple and transparent: you cover travel and accommodation (economy flights and reasonable lodging); I handle the rest. I often group bookings on one trip, so if I’m already in your region, travel fees can be minimal—ask me for the exact numbers.
What’s your photography style?
Candid, emotional, cinematic. I don’t over-pose—I guide when needed, then let real moments and beautiful light do the work. Timeless color, natural skin tones, and just the right amount of drama.
Do you photograph LGBTQ+ weddings?
Absolutely—proudly and with joy. Love is love, and everyone deserves to feel seen, celebrated, and beautiful in their photographs.
How many photos do we receive, and how long does it take?
For a full wedding day, expect around 600–900 fully edited images. Delivery is typically within 6–10 weeks. I personally edit every photo—no outsourcing, no heavy filters.
What happens if it rains?
We embrace it. Rain can be incredibly romantic and cinematic. I always carry weather-ready gear and backup plans, and we’ll still create something beautiful.
Do you help with planning or location advice?
Definitely. After hundreds of destination weddings, I can recommend timelines, venues, travel tips and perfect light windows. Consider me part photographer, part local guide.
How do we book you?
Send an enquiry via my contact page with your date, location and a few details. I’ll reply with availability, pricing and travel info. When you’re ready, we sign an agreement and lock it in with a retainer.
